Quilting, Part ii/ii

This project has definitely been a learning experience—expanding my sewing skills to the realm of quilting. It also taught me one more thing.

Sometimes, we can get our lives into a big mess through our mistakes. Sometimes it just gets into a mess almost without our knowing. God needs to come in and start ripping things apart that we’ve sewn together. It’s a painful process. It hurt to unsew all my hard work. It can take a long time, too. In my case, it took nearly a whole day. And then comes the resewing. It still hurt, even after all the seam ripping was finished.

The resewing process was just as long and tedious as it had been the day before. I was growing tired of handling the fabric *one* more time.

Finally, at long last, I sewed the last boarder edge on, pressed it, and was done! Sitting here writing this, something came to me. We are like quilts. Sometimes—often—we get our lives into a complete mess. The Master Seamster needs to come in and undo all that we’ve done our best to do. It hurts like crazy and we don’t want it, but that’s only because we don’t see the ultimate end result. Only God can see that, and we need to trust Him and “wait upon the Lord” through all the unsewing process. For in the end, everything works out and the result is a beautiful quilt.

“We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are chosen to be a part of His plan.” ~Romans 8:28, NLV
