Where I Am From

I am from the California Poppy, the Valley Oaks, and undulating green spring foothills.
from
from the red-door sanctuary: tan carpet under white tennis shoes, red chairs covered in dog fur,
from flip-flops in summer, to furry slippers in winter.
From biology and chemistry, from music and folk dancing.
I am from electric guitars and piano lessons, from violins and cellos.
I’m from big tins of popcorn around the Christmas tree and always being late; from ***** and ****** and *****.
From themed Christmases and birthday parties.
I am from small churches and worship teams,
from mergers and fresh starts,
from new friends and youth group.
I am from
From tubs of licorice and blintzee.
From vacations of sitting, swimming, and seeing, from kayaking and hiking and backpacking.
I am from Boy Scouts of America and the outdoors,
from mountain peaks to icy creeks,
from foothill forests to watching eagles soar.
I am from family, home with my beloved sheltie, and crazy squirrels.
