Smallness

Height has its advantages… and disadvantages. True, you can reach that mug on the top shelf, but you also have to bend down really far to look for that book you want at the library! But in one specific instance, smallness is a very good thing to have.

John the Baptist said he needs to be small. After we accept Christ as our Saviour, we begin a life-long process of transforming to be in His image. Our old, inside self slowly shrinks to nothing, and is replaced instead with the glory and image of Jesus. We become small to make room for the character of Jesus!

This is the smallness we want! There are absolutely no disadvantages with this lack of height! But how do we make our old selves shrink? Simply by praying and asking Jesus to mould us to be like Him. He will take us and increase His influence in our life; we must yield and force our old self to shrink. As John the Baptist said:

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” ~ John 3:30
