Looking Away

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of Earth
Will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

Posing for a picture, you blink from the flash. Walking from a dark store out into the bright sunlight, you squint. Beholding the radiant splendour of our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus, we should run with all our might toward Him. So long as we keep our eyes fixed upon Him, we are alright.

This is all good in theory, but then life happens and your eyes trail away. You get depressed because you can’t see the loving hands of your Saviour any more. That is what depression is: taking your eyes off of Jesus and focusing instead upon the waves crashing around you.

The Apostle Peter also learned what power there is in simply looking at Jesus. You can *walk on water*. So if you’re feeling down, stop and evaluate where your attentions are. Then turn your eyes upon Jesus, and watch the things of earth grow strangely dim compared to His glorious light!
